Various Types of Programs:

Government Sponsored Programs:
There are more Governments grants and offices to "Help" people that I am not so sure we need the governments help. "Rush Limbaugh" asked a question on his talk show one time: Name the things the government does WELL, better than any body else? I have found something! They make the best maps and tell the most lies. Not much else.

Philanthropic Organizations:
I haven't been able to find any non-religious organizations that want to help with out large sums of money also.

Private Organizations:
There are lots of "Private" places that you can go, and you had better bring all the credit cards you can carry. Remember the movie stars, and big name politician's children are put into those for that tax-deductible vacation/spa experience.

Religious Organizations:

Here is the only hope found for changing people's lives. Some people's idea of religion can be a bit challenging to except. The kind of "religious" activity that substitutes some little known psychoactive beetle urine for the "Drug" the pharmaceutical lobbyists have made illegal are not what I am talking about. What I am talking about here, is the true faith based God's Law stuff. With out a higher authority to set a standard to relate to, there is no reason to change. Lets face it, when it comes to recovering from a detrimental way of life, one has to change one's heart, and the only way to change one's heart is to have the manufacturer recondition it.

Structures:
The vast majority of programs are based on the Alcoholics Anonymous program. We can see from the number of repeat conviction for drunk driving that how well that works.

Formats:
First: Admit that you have a problem. The first thing that pops into my mind is what in my life isn't a problem? Do I have control? No. Do you? No. So, the first assumption is somewhat flawed. We all have problems, some of which we bring on ourselves, some we don't. Some we have some influence over some we don't.

Second:
Look around you, see how much better the other peoples lives are now that they don't do that bad thing your doing. (You ever wonder if they thought about not having control over the first problem yet?)

Third:
Find something else to occupy your time. Yes, this is the "if your doing this, you wont have time to do that" approach that assumes that you can not do two things at once. How many people come back from lunch everyday, having had an adult beverage? I have heard of people finding all kinds of ways to get booze into the work environment.
