Can DARP's be Justified?
From any angle I look from, only one has value, the life changing religious approach. It all comes down to changing the basic nature of a person. How can a zebra change it's stripes? People do "drugs" for a few reasons; escape, rebellion, fun, and peer pressure, experimentation, and suicide.

Escape:
There are times when folks get so frustrated that they want a "vacation" from what is going on around them. They take that vacation in the fastest, cheapest way possible - medications of some kind.

Rebellion:
Many youth go through a rebellious stage to ensure the parents will still love them if the make a mistake or a bunch of them. For example: Mom tells Little Miss "I will love you no matter what" when she asks what love is, a few years later, Little Miss discovers that there are some very unlovable things she see in herself, and want to see if Mom was telling the truth about loving her.

Others are just defying authority and take drugs just because they are told they can't. That's when they prove they can take drugs, and can become quite good at it. Then there is the situation of hearing horror stories and seeing that they just aren't true. My favorite was hearing in school and on the local news that some government "study" showed "Smoking Marijuana causes males to grow women like breasts. (Hay, I could have been on stage instead of Janet, I feel ripped off, why isn't the government protecting me from discrimination?) I heard of and saw many people smoking Pot and I did not see any of the males growing female breasts (good thing, I would have grown up very confused). The government lied about that, and if the lied about that, what else did they lie about?

Now that list could go on for a long time. I heard all the claims about the Disasters of Marijuana, but I have as yet, to see them. The only real drawback I have seen to pot is, it makes some people very lazy. But, some people are lazy without any help what so ever.

Fun:
One of the most misleading things about the drug awareness programs is they forget to tell you that recreational use can be fun and or make you feel better. That can lead to overindulgence and some types of addiction. Most people that use drugs recreationally, are not social problems, they pay their taxes, go to work, look after their children, and make their payments.

Peer Pressure:
Ever heard the saying "I don't trust a man that wont have a drink with me" in the old westerns? Or, If you don't have a ring in you nose, you can't be on our tennis team. Succumbing to "Peer Pressure" for any reason may be better to avoid, but that takes being responsible for what you decide to do and that's the governments job, isn't it?

The Experimenters:
They will kill themselves the first time they try something or not. If they kill themselves, that problem is self-solving. If they live, they will not be curious an more. After which, they either will never try it again, of use it recreationally.

Suicide Cases:
I have to believe; if someone wants to kill themselves they will succeed. Someone that is trying to get attention needs the help of a support group like a church.

Value of Programs:
People tend to stay the same. One person I know was hypnotized to help them stop smoking, the therapist suggested that cigarettes taste and smell like excrement, and the person kept on smoking. I asked him about it, his response floored me. He said "I like to smoke, it tastes and smells like S&#T but I like them. As much as I would like to think that you can force a Zebra to change it's stripes, I don't see it happening any time soon, except for the short of intervention by an invited creator, there is little if any chance of changing the human heart.

Usefulness of DARP's:
There is a portion of the population that is psychotic, people with some bio-chemical imbalance that are going to do sick and unnatural things like kill and eat their victims or rape children. Those people should be isolated from general society. The truth be known, there is little that can be done about those deranged types of people. That is why we have a God given right and responsibility, to protect our selves. The people that fall into the remainder of society should not be subjected to the sick and deviant behavior of that portion of society. The problem is, people need to be trained to take responsibility for there own behavior and the development of their children. Instead, we have everyone spending all their time blaming everybody and their dog for the stupid things that they do to themselves. I do not see that DARP's are helping remove true threats to society, like some of the more Marxist-Megalomaniac politicians we have in the US Senate. If a person is intending to keep using "drugs" they will. All of the programs in the world will not change an unwilling heart. We are back to that heart stuff again. How can we change a persons heart? I contend we can not.
